At Al's Army, maintaining an open, supportive and beneficial commenting community is an important aspect of our mission. In our mission to support survivors and their families, as well as our motto "Sometimes it takes an Army", it is essential that we allow our community the ability to discuss openly in a safe and positive environment. Who do we want to hear from?
Survivors, Caregivers, Family members, Medical staff, supporters, educators........... We want to hear from YOU!
What do we want to hear about?
Your story. How we may have helped you. Questions you have that you want the input of our community to provide feedback. Suggestions - Additional features, information, resources, etc. that you would like to see on our site.
What do we expect from our commenters?
We expect you to approach conversations in good faith and your fellow commenters with goodwill.
We ask that you extend these same considerations to our staff, our community and the volunteers dedicated to our mission.
We expect kindness, compassion, good faith, respect, and positivity.
We further expect you to abide by the Moderation Policy outlined below.
We ask for your assistance in ensuring that all commenters are abiding by our moderation policy and ask that If you suspect a comment is in violation of the Moderation Policy, please bring it to our attention for our review so that appropriate action can be taken.
If you think someone has made a great point, upvote their comment and tell them so!!
What our commenters can expect from us
We promise to read and monitor every comment mad.
Will guarantee to make a genuine effort to actively participate in as many conversations as possible.
Although we can’t always reply, we promise to make sure that your feedback and questions are seen and available to our community so long as they adhere to our Moderation Policy.
We promise to actively moderate all comments in accordance with the policy below to ensure that conversations are welcoming and helpful.
MODERATION POLICY
All comments on Al's Army are actively moderated by our Army. We believe in transparency and we will never remove comments solely for expressions of criticism or dissenting opinions. However, as with all things, we do have some rules. Violation of these rules will result in the removal of your comment(s) and/or the potential for your account to be banned/blocked in order to prevent future comments. These actions are taken at the discretion of our Army with the intent to protect everyone in our community. Please understand, when in doubt, our Army WILL err on the side of caution in order to maintain a healthy and positive environment for our commenting sections. If you feel your comments have been removed in error, or your account has been banned unfairly or mistakenly, please reach out to us using our contact form at alsarmy.org/contact-us. We are human and mistakes do happen—our spam filter nor our moderators are perfect but we assure you, we will do our best to make it right.
The below list are things that will get your comments deleted. Severe cases or repeated violations/abuse of the below list will result in your account getting banned/blocked:
Personal attacks
Discriminatory language
Inflammatory language
Spam posts (including self-promotion, posting of affiliated or referral links, PR pitches, ad's of any sort, sales or marketing)
Comments/usernames containing extreme profanity
Comments containing language or concepts that could be deemed offensive.
This may include abusive, threatening, pornographic, offensive, misleading or libelous language.
Comments that attack an individual directly will be deleted.
Comments that harass other posters will be deleted. Please be respectful toward other contributors.
Our "Red Flag" list:
These things won’t necessarily get your comments deleted or your account banned however, they will put us on alert and keep us checking to potentially intervene and take appropriate action.
Mild Profanity in comments and usernames: We understand - some mild profanity has its place in conversation. Just please, don’t use it to attack, discriminate, or intimidate, and it may be just fine.
Posting sprees: Posting in excess of 20 comments in an hour will have us checking to see if you might be a troll or spammer.
Monopolizing conversation: If you’re replying to every comment with helpful information, a positive attitude and with a genuine regard for our community, please carry on. However, we will not allow stunting conversations and shutting down other's perspectives.

Following an update, we will moderate existing comments to ensure they remain helpful and relevant.
Depending on the scope of the update, we may remove comments posted prior to the update.
We strive to allow our community the ability to openly discuss and comment on our site. We will do our best to only remove those comments that we genuinely feel don't meet our standards.
